e-shelter services GmbH certified according to PCI DSS for secure handling of credit card data

20. May 2019

Frankfurt, May 20, 2019 – e-shelter, Europe’s leading data center provider and a subsidiary of NTT Communications, announced today that on March 1, 2019, the joint PCI DSS certification project between e-shelter services GmbH and usd AG was completed successfully. With this result, e-shelter provides its customers with a verifiably secure environment for credit card data.

The PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) is a binding and globally recognized security standard for the handling of credit card data. Merchants and service providers who store, transmit or process card data must provide annual proof of compliance with its strict security requirements. Sebastian Einicke, Internal Controls and Business Continuity Manager and Dr. Dietmar Otten, Director Governance, both at e-shelter, accepted the official PCI DSS certificate in March from Jan Kemper, PCI Lead Assessor of usd AG.

“Data centers play a decisive role in fulfilling business-critical tasks for companies today,” said Einicke. “That’s why we place so much emphasis on providing our customers with an environment for their data that is not only highly available but also secure. Our PCI DSS certification makes it much easier for our customers to obtain their own certification. This saves them time and money without sacrificing data security. We would like to thank usd AG for their competent advice and friendly cooperation.”

Kemper also draws an extremely positive balance from the joint certification project: “The different e-shelter locations may vary greatly in size and number of customers. Nevertheless, the processes are harmonized in such a way that they always create a consistent picture, even with different local contacts. This is not an easy task, and it requires a lot of effort from all parties involved to maintain this level. All the more reason for me to be pleased that e-shelter has mastered this challenge so successfully”.
