Learned. Shared. Connected. Newcomer @ CST – A Review

1. July 2019

In events especially tailored to students, trainees and young professionals CST Academy and usd AG brought together cybersecurity newcomers in June and July.

During the usd Consulting Days in Cologne and Neu-Isenburg, students had the chance to have all their questions answered by experienced consultants – questions about careers in consulting, the everyday working life and how to get started. “The interest was so great that I did not get to present any of my slides during the first half of the event. I was only answering the questions they had.“, reports Maximilian Müller, Senior Consultant of the Security Consulting team in Neu-Isenburg

The speakers at Young Connect @ CST gave a newcomer-friendly presentation on the psychological tricks and pitfalls attackers use to gain unauthorized access to data. In addition, the attendees could test their own level of awareness at an interactive station. Afterwards, the young professionals got together to talk and exchange personal experiences with social engineering. “This was the first step towards a network of young professionals for more security across all sectors. We hope more will join in the future”, the organizers summarized.

Experienced pentesters and those who aspiring to be one could demonstrate their skills and creativity during the usd Hacking Nights in Neu-Isenburg and Cologne. Fuelled by pizza and Club-Mate they solved challenges, collected tokens and kept track of the live score board on screen. In Cologne the two time winner of previous Hacking Nights led his team to victory again. Matthias Göhring, Managing Consultant at usd HeroLab added: “As always, it was a pleasure to witness the participants crack the challenges we prepared. Their inventiveness, strategy and resilience have been remarkable.”
