Goethe University Frankfurt and usd AG offer Cyber Security Seminar

25. October 2021

For the fifth year in a row, the successful cooperation between usd AG and Goethe University Frankfurt is now being continued. As part of the joint project seminar by Prof. Dr. Wolfgang König, Professor at Goethe University Frankfurt, and Dr. Christian Schwartz, Managing Security Consultant and Authorized Signatory of usd AG, master's students from the faculties of economics and computer science will be offered topics in the field of "Cyber Security - Strategies, Analyses and Technical Support Systems"..

As part of the project seminar, students deal with the acute threat situation of today. Hacker attacks, phishing attacks, ransomware: these are just a few examples of threats that companies, organizations and private individuals have to face today. And the number is growing, both qualitatively and quantitatively. The development of effective strategies and options for effective protection against cyber attacks is therefore increasingly in the foreground, and rightly so.

Given this background, the cyber security project seminar pursues the following goals:

  • Improve awareness of the threat situation as well as possible solutions and their limitations
  • Analyze existing security mechanisms and architectures, compare them with each other and test their effectiveness
  • Identify foundations for security awareness as part of the corporate culture
  • Design and test new technical, economic and legal approaches to solutions
  • To contribute to a better response of our society to such challenges in the future
  • To learn about the advantages of interdisciplinary knowledge processes on the object

Dr. Christian Schwartz is already looking forward to the collaboration: "It is always a pleasure for me to discuss this really relevant topic of our time together with students. Cyber security in the most diverse facets. Thanks to our many years of work as a consulting firm in the field of information security management and risk management, we are aware of the difficult situation in companies today. Therefore, our commitment to education is all the more important to us. Young professionals in the field of cyber security, but also just people with an awareness of the topic, are more important today than ever before."

Students of the seminar can choose from the following topics:

  • Threat Forecasting
  • Supply Chain Security
  • Open Source Software Evaluation
  • Security Awareness
  • Security Overconfidence
  • Extra-Role Security Behavior

More information on each unit topic can be found by students on the department pages here.
